Suburban Wildlife: The Magnificent Muscovy
The Muscovy Duck is fun to watch. In this video, I videoed the behavior of the Muscovy to help me with my still photography. As I looked at the Muscovy, I saw its face, and I first wondered whether bugs were covering it; the next moment, I realized it was dirt and leaves.
As the Muscovy stared at me, I thought we both might be engaged in a staring contest. However, the Muscovy turned and foraged for food in the dirt and leaves, which is the cause of its dirty face. I was fortunate to see the feeding habits of the Muscovy and its quick movements.
The Muscovy joyously looked for and ate its food, forgetting I was sitting within a few feet of it.
I try to study the wildlife I photograph to learn their behavior. In this instance, I was reminded that you might expect one thing and get another. Photographing or videoing wildlife is not always an adventure.
Some might find sitting and watching wildlife behavior boring, while others find it fascinating. Each time I encounter wildlife, whether in a breathtaking moment or a simple one, I find the study and photography of wildlife fascinating. I have, in my photohunts, continued to gain a newfound respect and knowledge of our natural world.
Life is an adventure, embrace it.
